Igwe Mac-Anthony Chinedu Elibe Okonkwo (The Eridiohanma 111 of Alor
Kingdom during Music Africa Awake media launch on Tuesday 25th 2015 .In
his speech, he said it's no longer news that we Africans suffer most
wherever there is a case of racism in Europe , but how can we explain
xenophobic attack among us in Africa? In this modern days of
civilization,we shouldn't be
experiencing things like
this in our society and also, I stand here as a traditional ruler to
commend Music Africa Awake for their involvement in the recently
concluded UNESCO summer summit that took place in New York United State
of America from 5th-9th of August 2015 with the Theme: Bringing Culture
to post 2015 Agenda, voice of traditional stakeholder. That summit among
other issues, seriously discussed the infusion of culture in the
sustainable development Agenda. Music Africa Awake, among other selected
organizations across Africa were chosen to attend that summit. This
task was not without difficulties as logistics and other issues made it
difficult for a lot of our traditional rulers in Africa to take part. So,
in tune with this development, music Africa Awake has decided to , in
Collaboration with UNESCO, organize a conference for African Traditional
rulers and stakeholders to discuss and dialogue on the following.
1. Xenophobia
2. the potential role of culture in promoting sustainable development across Africa.
3. Cultural development and cultural exchange among African Nations
4. Repackaging and promotion of African Cultural values and heritage on the global market or stage
This conference will hold in south Africa next year 2016, and invitation will be sent to concerned parties and interested sponsors and partners in good time.
I want to say at this point that, there is no better time for a project like this than now, when we Africans now have reasons to discriminate among our self.So it is high time we come together as one and use one of our binding factors which is culture, to foster peace, Unity and encourage development.
